When speaking of my childhood, I often describe my younger self as a die-hard Nintendo fangirl, but that might be inaccurate. On that note, I always assume that there were dozens of entrants and the game just abbreviated it to the few depicted to keep things memorable and simple, but Calypso states in the intro that “12 of the best drivers” are participating, which blows that theory out of the water. Jeff Kitts It has since almost completely disappeared, but it’s always fun to go back and see such relics in its heyday. For that matter, who won? Unique characters, lots of weapons, tough bosses, addictive gameplay, Dated graphics, glitchy gameplay, the last good TM game on the PSX.
It said to use your shield often, which left me confused, because… Shield? Sweet Tooth has to be unlocked with a code, which is a little strange, but whatever. Some of the new characters, like Grasshopper and Shadow, are pretty forgettable, they’re made up for by the inclusion of Axel and Mr. Slam. It was paid for by the author. Twisted Metal 2 is a clear improvement over the first game, but it still suffers from age-related problems and some obtuse design. The cutscenes are absolutely fantastic, showing still cutouts slinging words at each other.
The graphics as a whole are improved. Instead of the fictitious environments that made up the slaying fields in the original, TM2 features layouts based on the topography of Los Angeles, New York, Hong Kong, Moscow, and Paris; the frozen icelands of Antarctica; the molten lava ruins of Amazonia; and the serene farmlands of Holland.
There are a few great themes scattered throughout, such as the Antarctica theme. They’re all really creepy and it fits the vibe of the game really well. !!!!!!!!!!!! The presentation got the best upgrade.
The animation during the cutscenes looks pretty awful. Twisted Metal 2 is the PC conversion of the PlayStation game, and as such shares most of the features of its predecessor – serious action, decent visuals and questionable long-term singleplayer gameplay within the eight environments. I didn’t even find out about it until I got frustrated in Holland and looked up a strategy guide. One thing that is never made clear is why Calypso is bothering to do this. 12 deadly machines in all! Sound/Music - 8/10The soundtrack in this game is awesome. And that's a good thing. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Defensive playing and hit-and-run tactics are the only way to beat this game if you do not use the special abilities, and those take time to master.Interface- 7/10The interface is average in this game. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
