Climbing up to the upper path we continued on a broad path to pass another weaved art installation called ‘The Stalking Horse’. Skipton Wood (also known as Skipton Castle Woods, Castle Wood or Springs Wood) is a 36-acre (15 ha) wood following the valley of Eller Beck to the north of Skipton behind Skipton Castle in North Yorkshire, England. Almost from the start the canal path was squeezed between the canal on our right and Eller Beck on our left.

It was thus almost at the last moment, as we approached Skipton, that I decided that we would instead do a woodland walk instead. From the church we walked down the High Street before cutting down Sheep Street to our right. A nice easy stroll, good Covid measures as a one way system in place due to narrow paths. In 2018, the Woodland Trust commissioned two pieces of natural sculpture for Skipton Castle Woods to celebrate the medieval origins of the wood as a larder and hunting ground for Skipton Castle. routeMarkersLayer = new OpenLayers.Layer.Markers("Route Markers");
First time doing this walk after visiting Skipton a couple of times, lovely and peaceful, few little waterfalls and ponds, different routes to follow, a lovely walk, well worth doing if love nature walks and trees. points.push(new OpenLayers.Geometry.Point(399204.5,452135.5));

It’s a faster way to see local sights than a walking tour, and it’s perfect for all weather conditions too. Finally, we ended the walk, as all good visits to Skipton should, with lunch at the Skipton Pie and Mash Shop. There's the odd bench so you could take a picnic. Continuing on we crossed Eller Beck at a footbridge, turned right around the back of some houses and came to the entrance of Skipton Castle Woods.
