The Bauhaus may have been oriented towards an international (European) artistic avant-garde, hiring the Russian Kandinsky, the Hungarian László Moholy-Nagy, and the Swiss Johannes Itten, but in the context of post-World-War-I Germany that internationalism was deeply embedded in a passionate, wide-reaching concern about just what “Germanness” was.
